Fatalities as Pakistan and India hit by flooding

The Monsoon season of 2011 has led to widespread flooding in Pakistan. Torrential downpours – up to 350 mm of rain has fallen this month alone.

In southern Pakistan, at least 200 people have been killed, whilst hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless. It is estimated that around 5 million people have been affected. The fear now is that the flood water will lead to the spread of disease as aid workers struggle to reach the areas worst affected.
